Satkhira Polytechnic Institute (SPI) is a government-run technical academic institute in Bangladesh that offers diploma in engineering courses in four different technologies: Computer, Electronics, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning, and Civil. Established in 2002, SPI is the only mid-level engineering institution in Satkhira, a district that borders the world-famous mangrove forest Sundarbans. SPI aims to produce skilled and competent technical manpower that can meet the global demands and contribute to the development of the country.
Location and Campus
SPI is located next to the Satkhira-Jessore Highway in Labsha Union Parishad, about 5 km away from the city center. The institute has a spacious and green campus that covers an area of 2.05 acres. The campus consists of one academic building, one administration building, and two workshop buildings. The academic building has well-equipped classrooms, laboratories, and library facilities. The administration building houses the principal’s office, the accounts section, and the student affairs section. The workshop buildings have various workshops for practical training and project work.
Academic Programs and Activities
SPI offers four-year diploma in engineering courses in four technologies: Computer, Electronics, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning, and Civil. The courses are designed and regulated by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB), which also conducts the examinations and awards the certificates. The courses are divided into eight semesters, each lasting six months. The admission process is conducted through a centralized online system based on the results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination.
The institute has a total of 35 teachers who are qualified and experienced in their respective fields. They provide quality education and guidance to the students using modern teaching methods and technologies. The institute also organizes various academic activities such as seminars, workshops, industrial visits, project exhibitions, and competitions to enhance the learning outcomes and skills of the students.
Extracurricular Activities and Clubs
SPI believes in the holistic development of the students and encourages them to participate in various extracurricular activities and clubs. The institute has a number of clubs that cater to the interests and talents of the students. Some of these clubs are:
- English Language Club: This club aims to improve the English language proficiency and communication skills of the students through various activities such as debates, quizzes, spelling bees, and presentations.
- Cultural Club: This club organizes cultural events and programs such as music, dance, drama, poetry recitation, and art exhibition to showcase the creativity and diversity of the students.
- Sports Club: This club promotes physical fitness and sportsmanship among the students by arranging sports tournaments and competitions such as cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, chess, and carrom.
- Innovation Club: This club fosters innovation and entrepreneurship among the students by providing them with opportunities to work on projects that solve real-world problems using technology.
