Overview

Agrani Girls High School is one of the well-known schools in Dhaka, Bangladesh, that has been providing quality education to girls since 1957. The school was founded by Dr Quazi Anwara Mansoor, a visionary educator who realized the importance of female education in this region of South Asia. She was assisted by some other dedicated women, such as Naimunnesa Chaudhuri, Rabeya Khatun, Amena Bahar, Hosne Ara Begam and engineer M. A. Jabbar.

History

The school started as a kindergarten under a tent with only 14 students. It was then named Azimpur Kindergarten. Later, it was upgraded to a secondary school for girls in 1967 and renamed as Azimpur Agrani Balika Bidyalay. In 1994, it introduced higher secondary courses and became a school cum college with the name Agrani School and College. The school offers courses in humanities, commerce and science. There are approximately 4,500 students enrolled in the school.

Academics

The school has a reputation for academic excellence and extracurricular activities. The school has produced many notable alumni, such as singer Samina Chowdhury, who have contributed to various fields of society. The school also celebrates its founder’s birthday every year on 21 January with a group prayer session and cultural programs.
