Motijheel Govt Boys High School & College is one of the oldest and most renowned educational institutions in Dhaka, Bangladesh. History and Background
The school was founded by Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, the then prime minister of Pakistan, on 14 June 1957. The name of the school was ‘Motijheel Central Government High School’ then. Later, it was changed to the current name. But even today, the name Central Government remains popular. The students of the school like to call themselves ‘Centralian’.
Starting with only a few students, the school is now an institution of more than 3500 students. The school campus is 7.5 acres with 2 big playgrounds. The school has a six-storied building for holding college classes, which was built in 2008 when the government of Bangladesh declared it as the provider of Higher Secondary Education.
The school is regarded as one of the best schools in the locality. It frequently takes place in top ten schools in Dhaka Education Board by result of SSC examination. In 1995, the school was awarded as the Best Educational Institution of Bangladesh, by the Education Ministry of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Government. And the Headmaster of that time was Mr. Rashid Uddin Zahid whom awarded as the Best Teacher.
Academic Programs and Facilities
The school offers classes from grade 1 to grade 12, with two shifts: morning shift, from 7:15 am to 11:30 am and day shift, from 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm. There are two faculties for secondary education: Science and Commerce. The school does not have any Arts faculty. There is a science club for science enthusiasts students of the school.
The school follows the national curriculum prescribed by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB). The school also participates in various national and international competitions and programs, such as Bangla Wikipedia School Program, Math Olympiad, Science Olympiad, Debate Competition, etc.
The school has a well-equipped library, computer lab, science lab, auditorium, multimedia classroom and CCTV surveillance system. The school also has a spacious canteen, a mosque and a medical center for the students and staff.
Co-curricular Activities and Achievements
The school believes in the holistic development of the students and encourages them to take part in various co-curricular activities such as sports, cultural events, social service, etc. The school has several clubs and societies for different interests and hobbies, such as:
